Chamber music changes the distance between artist and audience.
In Auburn Symphony’s 2026/27 Chamber Series, the music happens close enough to see the smallest gestures: a bow lifting, a breath before a phrase, a melody passing from one musician to another. These concerts trade the sweep of the mainstage for something more personal, where the room, the artists, and the audience shape the experience together.
Bohemian Tales opens the series at St. Matthew San Mateo Episcopal Church, a beautiful and resonant setting for an evening of old-world elegance and spirited dance. Auburn Symphony musicians Emilie Choi, Joyce Ramee, and Brian Wharton join pianist Judith Cohen for Brahms’ sweeping Piano Quartet No. 1, Haydn’s charming “all’ongarese” Piano Trio, and Monti’s fiery Czárdás.
French Impressions & Beyond continues the series at Postmark Center for the Arts, where Auburn Symphony Principal Flute Wendy Wilhelmi, violist Leslie Faye Johnson, and Auburn Symphony Principal Harpist John Carrington create a shimmering sound world of flute, viola, and harp. Debussy’s Sonata anchors the program, joined by Fauré’s Dolly Suite, Bax’s Elegiac Trio, and Foote’s At Dusk.
From the warm resonance of St. Matthew San Mateo to the close-up atmosphere of Postmark, the Chamber Series invites you to experience music as conversation: elegant, expressive, and deeply connected to the space around you.
