SUMMARY
In a world increasingly more divided, music brings us together. No piece does that better than Ludwig van Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 9, dedicated to all humankind. The familiar Ode to Joy theme uplifts and empowers us, calling on us to “sing more cheerful songs, more full of joy!” Similarly, Mason Bates’ Philharmonia Fantastique: The Making of an Orchestra, a concerto for orchestra and animated film, shows the Orchestra overcoming its musical differences to bring “unity from diversity.” Revel in the joy, creativity, and wonder of these two epic pieces.
